Sierra Designs, a heritage outdoor brand with more than 50 years of experience creating innovative products, is proud to announce its partnership with the Packing It Out team, a group of thru-hikers raising awareness of litter conditions along America’s trails. Packing It Out’s mission is to inspire a greater sense of environmental stewardship by cleaning up trash along the nation’s trail systems.

In 2015, the Packing It Out team thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, removing more than 1,000 pounds of trash along the scenic trail. This year, the team plans to take their pursuit west along the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Team members Seth Orme, Paul Twedt and Chris Moore will begin their journey on May 6th, heading north along the PCT from the Mexico–California border. Sierra Designs is providing equipment and apparel for each of the team members to help them accomplish their inspiring mission.

“We are so excited to support the Packing It Out team,” says Candyce Hedlund, Marketing Manager at Sierra Designs. “This group is making an extraordinary effort to show how important it is to keep our natural spaces beautiful.”

The Packing It Out team plans to spend at least five months trekking from southern California to the Canadian border, making frequent stops to drop off any trash they’ve collected. Founder Seth Orme says the difficulty of the journey is outweighed by the importance of fostering a greater respect for the outdoors in our communities.

“We want to change people’s attitudes and prove that litter is everyone’s responsibility instead of someone else’s problem,” says Orme. “We’re thrilled to have Sierra Designs on board as a sponsor this year to support that mission.”
